Chocolate Soft Caramel Squares & Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

Also made this week was Chocolate Caramel Squares. These are actually my favorite. I first had them when I went to a Christmas Craft sale. The local Mennonites used to bring a lot of their baked goods and this was one I bought, and the next day I came back and bought some more. I kinda winged it when I made up the recipe orginally. But just the other day I was going through one of my cookbooks and my recipe is really close to the recipe they had.

But I didn't have a can of sweetened condensed milk. So, of course I had to look up how to make it. I found a few recipes online, and kind of smashed them together and it turned out great! I used half the recipe of the squares and the other half as dip for apple slices.

Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

1 cup - powdered milk
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup boiling water
3 tbsp - melted butter

Put all together in blender and blend until it's smooth. Mine never got silky smooth, but mix it up as best you can. Then use however you want.
