White Bean & Ham Soup

I came across this recipe for Ham & White Bean Soup from Plain Chicken. So this looked like a great soup recipe to make in the crock pot with today being a little chilly. So I dumped everything into (along with 2 shredded baby carrots) the crock, and whipped up another batch of Mountain Dew Biscuits. Let this soup cook for 9 hours - until everyone was complaining they were hungry.
It smelled awesome while it was cooking - even the bean haters were looking forward to eating this.
Dud. Beans still had a hardness to them, and the broth tasted like slightly salty water. I added some chicken broth powder to give it some flavor but really this was just a complete let down. Beans and chunks of ham in dirty looking water. I want to taste PC's to see what the difference was - PC's had so many positive reviews too.
So, still on a search for a good ham and bean soup.
