Sweet & Sour Meatballs

I found this recipe somewhere, I can't remember from where at all. I think I've had it since my first daughter was born... I've made this many many times in the last 9 years. It is the only meal that I can think of that the whole family doesn't whine or sigh at when I serve it - they actually LIKE it, they actually REQUEST it! What?! What?! I know!

This is the recipe that I follow - usually, sometimes I don't have onions, and most of the time I used dried diced onion. I've made it 3 times in the oven, but when I actually plan supper it's always made in the crock pot - sometimes the meatballs are browned and sometimes they are not - all depends on time of course.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

meatballs

1 lb ground beef
Worcestershire sauce, to taste
3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
oregano, to taste
1 egg, slightly beaten
salt and pepper, to taste
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the sauce

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup onion, chopped
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons soya sauce
For meatballs: Mix all ingredients (minus oil) together. Form into balls. Fry in oil until golden then place on paper towel to drain. Set aside
For Sauce: In medium saucepan, fry onion in oil until tender. Add all other sauce ingredients and simmer 20 minutes. Add meatballs and cook 1 hour on medium. Serve and Enjoy!
*You can also place browned meatballs and sauce mix into crock pot. I've also not browned them and just plopped them into the crock pot, mixed the sauce ingredients together and poured that over top.
